Nira Tamayo is an OCD and Anxiety Specialist and lead therapist at The Scoggan Institute. She is a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) whose clinical foundation was shaped by nearly two decades of intensive trauma-informed work with individuals impacted by severe trauma, abuse, and complex emotional challenges. This early and sustained experience developed her exceptional understanding of the nervous system’s fight-or-flight response and the lasting effects of trauma on identity, relationships, and emotional regulation, critical foundations that now inform her specialized treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and anxiety disorders.
Trained in Exposure and Response Prevention under The Scoggan Method for Exposure Therapy and working as a direct understudy to founder Ricky Scoggan, Nira brings a rare combination of clinical precision and deep compassion to her work. She equips clients and families with the education, strategies, and steady guidance needed to challenge OCD’s patterns and reclaim control over their lives. Her skill in connection and treatment direction is outstanding, allowing her to meet clients with clarity, warmth, and effectiveness at every stage of recovery.
Nira is especially skilled at working with the entire family system. Drawing on her training in Systems Theory and Family Therapy, she helps family members develop a clear understanding of OCD and anxiety, reduces unhelpful accommodation patterns, and builds the kind of informed, supportive environment that accelerates lasting change. Whether she is working with an individual, a couple, or the whole family, she creates space for deeper insight, emotional safety, and recovery that extends beyond the individual client.
Her approach integrates evidence-based exposure work with the core frameworks of Marriage and Family Therapy, including Systems Theory, attachment-informed perspectives, and meaning-making approaches. This allows clients not only to reduce symptoms but also to develop greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and healthier relational patterns. Clinical, grounded, and genuinely caring, Nira stands as a trusted leader in the specialized treatment of OCD, anxiety, and the family dynamics that surround them.
