Ricky Scoggan

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist OCD Specialist Founder & Clinical Director at The Scoggan Institute

Ricky began his career working with adolescents experiencing acute trauma and complex mental health challenges in residential and outpatient settings. This early experience fostered his expertise in emotional regulation, family systems, and identity development—critical foundations that now shape his specialized OCD and anxiety treatment model. As a doctoral student in Marriage and Family Therapy, his academic work on identity formation through trauma and human development continues to inform his approach to treating OCD and anxiety—particularly in understanding how intrusive thoughts impact one’s sense of self and core beliefs.

At The Scoggan Institute, Ricky leads with a blend of clinical precision, warmth, and humor. He equips clients and families with the education, strategies, and mindset needed to challenge OCD’s patterns and reclaim control over their lives. As a trusted mentor and speaker, Ricky also provides clinical supervision and training to therapists seeking advanced skills in OCD and anxiety treatment.

He combines expertise from multiple evidence-based modalities, including:

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – trained through the Portland DBT Institute

  • Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (iCBT)

  • Clinical Neuro-Linguistic Programming – Certified Master Practitioner through the NLP Institute of California

  • Systems Theory and Family Therapy

Ricky earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Forensic Psychology from the University of Utah and his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The American School of Professional Psychology. His doctoral research and training continue to deepen his understanding of how fear, development, and identity intersect in the experience and treatment of OCD and anxiety.

In addition to clinical work, Ricky serves as a motivational speaker, leadership coach, and trainer, empowering both clients and professionals to shift their mindset, challenge fear-based patterns, and move toward lasting transformation.
